What is in the guide:

2024 Miles Hiked: 58.1

This website is an informational trail & lake guide to 70+ lakes and other routes along the Idaho / Montana state line between Thompson Pass and Lolo Pass. This is not a comprehensive guide as I have more lakes to visit. Except where noted, I have personally visited the lakes / hiked the routes in this guide.

The lakes and their names come from the respective state’s Fish & Game websites. I am using the official names provided per the Fish & Game. The order of the lakes are North to South, starting at Thompson Pass with the lakes grouped into geographical regions for organizational purposes.

Each individual lake page includes:

      • Area Topo Map, using the ESRI ArcGIS Mapviewer
      • Route Difficulty Rating
      • Estimated One-way Distance
      • Trailhead Elevation & Coordinates, using Google Earth tools
      • Lake Elevations & Coordinates, taken at the outlet using Google Earth tools
      • Route Description to the Trailhead & then to the Lake
      • Short Description about the Lake, Pictures & Maybe a short story
      • Where Warranted, an Estimated cross-country depiction that is general in nature

I include additional detail about State Line Trail #738 and some picture galleries (& More) of some places that I love to visit outside of the Great Burn Area. I am also keeping a running total of the miles of trail I have hiked during the year. This total does not include daily walks with Skye.
