This website is a totally free informational trail & lake guide to 80 lakes, peaks and other routes along the Idaho / Montana state line between Thompson Pass and Lolo Pass that spans much of the 1910 Burn Areas and the Great Burn Proposed Wilderness Area. This includes about 250 miles of trail descriptions over the area the site covers. This is not a comprehensive guide (getting closer) as I have not visited all the lakes nor hiked all the trails along the stateline divide and adjoining areas. I have personally visited the lakes / hiked the routes in this guide; if I haven't hiked the trail, summitted the peak or set foot along the lake shoreline then I don't include it in this guide.
The lakes and their names come from the respective state’s Fish & Wildlife websites. The order of the lakes are North to South, starting at Thompson Pass with the lakes grouped into geographical regions for organizational purposes. All the pictures are mine; the trail & lake descriptions are also my creations, I don't copy and paste from other trail guide sites.
Each individual lake page includes:
I include additional detail about Stateline Trail #738 (Idaho Centennial Trail) from the Dry Creek Summit to Cache Creek and some picture galleries (& More) of some places that I love to visit outside of the Great Burn Area. I am also keeping a running total of the miles of trail I have hiked during the year. This total does not include daily walks with Skye.
This site is not static, during the non-winter months (March - October) I create weekly reports of my outings, add any new lakes or routes, make any corrections as needed and add current photos from my outings. I created the guide in 2024 (year 1) so the information has been changing weekly. I am still updating and adding information and website structure so the site will change from time to time.
I do not ask for any money, information about users or post ads to the site; this is a strictly free site with no strings attached. I am not a licensed guide nor do I guide trips. If you do have any questions about a specific route or lake, feel free to email me and I will get back with an answer.
