With the exception of Crystal, Hub, Hazel and Moore Lakes, the lakes in this area either have a brutal climb in or out, a cross country route or both. I am always impressed on how rugged the Ward & Eagle Peaks area can be. Hub and Hazel Lakes get the lion's share of traffic, but it is easy to find a bit of solitude with a little extra effort. Eagle Peak, Mary and Ward Peak Lakes are the only lakes that have no fish populations. Ward, Eagle and Gold Peaks can be summited either as individual outings or all three in one (long) day. The state line road #391 is fairly rough and rocky but is completely doable with any truck or SUV. Even though the hiking trails do not allow any motorized use, there is a lot of area / access for the motorized unit users. The Up Up Mountain lookout tower is rentable, but does not allow pets. The only lake on my master list in this area that I have not been to is Newman Lake. I also include the St. Regis River Trails along the Cutoff Road (Hwy 135) in this region.
