Weekly Report: September 16 - September 22: St. Regis Lakes

This was a light week for hiking as I was feeling a bit burned out from the summer and I had some things around the house that I really needed to take care of so Skye & I made a short trip into the St. Regis Lakes on Wednesday the 18th. The day was cool and cloudy with some sunbreaks, overall a good day with no rain. We drove into the far trailhead. Lookout Pass is installing a gate at the junction where the old road leaves the access road to the new addition with the intent to close access to that area. I road my motorcycle up to the top and out on the ridgeline past top of the lift 2 years ago.

The trailhead was empty when we arrived. The trail climbs moderately for around 2 miles with 2 crossings of the outlet stream for the 2 lakes, losts of 2's in that sentence. It is just short of 500 feet vertical with 8 switchbacks between the second crossing and the Upper Lake, but the trail stays at a moderate grade. It was a bit cold and windy at the lake, so I added a long sleeve shirt. The water was down a couple feet so walking the shoreline was easy as I took a stroll along the left shoreline. This lake has some small fish and I did see a couple risers. I took a few pictures and headed over to the other lake. I was surprised to see a couple (from Wallace) and dog there; they had come in behind me when I was walking the left shoreline. We chatted for a couple minutes then they left. Skye & I stopped and had lunch before heading back to the truck and home.
