Lost Creek and Falls: On Wednesday, June 4th, I drove up to the Lost Creek Meadows outside of Superior for a hike up Lost Creek. The desired goal was to hike past Lost Lake to the ridgeline above the Bonanza Lakes. Unfortunately, weather and snow conditions prevented a successful day. I stopped by the falls and got some good pictures on the way back.
Blossom and Pear Lakes: On Friday, June 6th I hiked into the Blossom and Pear Lakes. I was the first vehicle at the Thompson Pass trailhead at 7:30 in the morning, which was a surprise. The trail was cleared out with no snow until right at the lake. I fished for a bit at Lower Blossom and hooked 4 but was not keeping them. The trail to Upper Blossom was mostly snow but not bad. I also fished at the upper lake but didn't get any action nor see any evidence of fish. I then went back to the intersection and headed up towards Pear Lake. The trail was covered in 4-5 feet of snow especially at the top of the flat ridge and made navigation difficult. Eventually, there was enough old tracks and very short bare trail that I made it to Pear Lake. Pear Lake was still mostly froze over and all the campsites were either under water or covered with snow. I had lunch and then worked my way back to Thompson Pass and met 6 separate parties along the way.
Copper Lake: On Saturday, June 8th, Kathy, Skye and I hiked into Copper Lake on the Montana side of Lookout Pass. It is an easy 1.25 mile hike up a primitive old mining road. The road is open to motorized use, but there were several large trees across the road so it was a nice quiet day. There was still some snow at and just below the lake.
