Weekly Report: April 20 - April 26: Muchwater CG: St Regis River Trail & Cascade Falls

On Wednesday April 22nd, Skye and I headed with the trailer over to the Muchwater CG on the cut-off road (hwy 135); despite the cold and wet forecast for the rest of the week. It was snowing over Lookout Pass and raining at the campground. We got the trailer set up and settled in for the night. Last fall we traded in our R-Pod for a Grand Design Transcend One, a small single axle trailer a bit bigger than the R-Pod. We went back to CDA on Thursday afternoon to pick up Kathy after work and didn't get back till dark. Each night it got down to almost freezing and never got above 50 the 4 days we were camping. I have been dealing with an injured Achilles all winter and was using this outing to test it out. On Friday we hiked up to the Peninsula Overlook on the St. Regis River Trail from the Ferry Landing TH, a total round trip distance of 1.5 miles. Then on Saturday we hiked up to the Cascade Falls overlook and back, a total of 3 miles. Along with several walks around the CG loop (~1 mile) this was the most that I have walked since late October. I hope my achilles is starting to get good enough for some more hiking. All in all it was a good trip with some snow and some bighorn sheep in the rocks across the river.
